Sugar Ray Leonard Mansion entered at the same price after 6 months
PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – Listed By: Tomer Fridman, Compass; Drew Fenton, Hilton & Hyland
Almost six months after its initial listing, Sugar Ray Leonard’s big house Pacific Palisades – one of the most expensive to ever sell in the Palisades – is still on the market, for the same price.
Although the Los Angeles real estate market has cooled slightly in recent months, the pandemic has always resulted in rising house prices and a rapid market. In 2020, homes only spent an average of 25 days on the market before going under contract, according to Zillow.
But it’s a different ball game – or in this case, a boxing match – when a living legend sells his house for $ 46 million. Marquis properties like Leonard’s House – which offers seven bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a wine cellar, tennis court, guesthouse, swimming pool and more – can spend many months, even years, on the market, and possibly lower its price if there are no takers.
In January, the Owlwood Estate, a mega-house in Holmby Hills once owned by Sonny and Cher, sold for $ 88 million, $ 92 million more than its original asking price when it was first listed over three years earlier in 2017.
In February, a 10-acre, 20,000-square-foot Italian villa in Beverly Hills was auctioned off for an undisclosed price that would be well below its original price of $ 165 million. The house was first listed in 2018, according to Mansion Global.
In comparison, the house of Sugar Ray Leonard is a newcomer to the market. A representative for the listing agent declined to tell Patch whether or not the price will drop, but confirmed that it hasn’t since listing.
The house is surely a Marquis property: spanning nearly two acres in the Haute Riviera, it is designed by starch maker Richard Landry. It is inspired by an Italian villa and features Jerusalem stone, Juliet balconies, fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, a solarium, medieval tapestries, patio doors, and high-end appliances. It might take a minute, but there is no doubt someone is looking for the most expensive house listed in the Palisades.
