Raleigh in top 10 for percentage of female real estate agents
In residential real estate, a field dominated by women nationally, Raleigh still stands out.
Nearly 64% of real estate agents in Raleigh are women, the ninth highest percentage among major metropolitan areas in the country, according to a new Construction Coverage study.
The state as a whole, however, ranks below the national average, with women representing less than 53% of all real estate agents in North Carolina, according to the study.
According to the most recent data from the Census Bureau, collected in 2020, women represent 56% of all real estate agents in the United States.
Construction Coverage analyzed data from the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and online real estate market Zillow.
Across the country, four in 10 female real estate agents work part-time, they found, while less than 27% of men are part-time in the profession.
“Because the real estate business offers high earning potential, flexible hours for families and a low barrier to entry, it attracts large numbers of women looking for a career change, a second job or a return to the labor market after a career break”, author of the study jonathan jones wrote.
