Escape to a chalet is a way of life for Montrealers, but the concept of a chalet can mean many things.
Alpine skiers brought the Swiss chalet to the Laurentians from the 1920s to the 1950s. And renowned builder Victor Nymark emigrated from Finland and introduced Scandinavian log cabins, notably Chateau Montebello in the 1930s, and many houses in the north.
The Eastern Townships are home to solid Loyalist homes built by British settlers, as well as New England-style plank cottages and even Georgian, Gothic Revival, and Victorian parsonages.
But cottage living has evolved, embracing open concept living, the straight architectural lines of modern design, and plenty of windows to blend in and out.
The two new chalets of Réflexion – Maisons Miroirs take these trends even further and have doubled the beauty of the wooded environment with mirrored exterior walls.

âThe mirrored chalets reflect the environment and they disappear into their environment,â said Simon Allard, one of the four promoters, along with Guillaume Genest, Simon Veilleux and Louis Bertrand. âIt’s a harmonious integration into the forest.
Like Charlevoix: âWe want to be deep in nature,â said Genest, âbut we want to make nature as comfortable as possible.â
Each house measures 12.5 by 8.5 meters (41 by 28 feet) and includes a full kitchen with lovely crockery, a bathroom with a shower, and two bedrooms – one with a queen bed and one with bunk beds, which can accommodate accommodate up to six people. With sectional sofas and low armchairs, the interior design is contemporary and upscale, and as luxurious as that of a good hotel. The rich wood plays against the dark walls, while contrasting with the open spaces filled with light.

Reflection perks that you don’t find with every cottage rental include a washer-dryer, air conditioning, heated floors throughout, a wood-burning fireplace, and a private hot tub. Summer calls for outdoor living, and you’ll have a furnished patio, complete with a barbecue and an outdoor fire pit.
Confidentiality is assured. The two Réflexion chalets are nestled in a wooded area of ââ9,000 square meters, about 10 percent larger than a Canadian football field, so there is space to wander and an air of tranquility in the heart of nature. .
The developers have thought of everyone involved. They even installed markers around the mirrored walls so that birds and other wildlife don’t confuse environmental reflections with rustic reality. The markers are produced by Feather Friendly and approved by the American Bird Conservancy and Flap Canada, all geared towards saving avian life.

The neighborhood: The historic village of Petite-Rivière-St-François, founded in the 1670s by settlers from the Beaupré region, is about five kilometers from Réflexion. Located between a steep mountain and the shore of the St. Lawrence River, it is quiet and picturesque, with magnificent views from the city’s wharf and some water sports on the St. Lawrence, depending on the current and the tides.
For a different view, Héli-Charlevoix offers more than 15 aerial excursions, very popular for visits and celebrations. Tours start at $ 69 per person for six minutes covering approximately 20 kilometers, going up to around $ 830 per person for 90 minutes over 300 kilometers.
Depending on your route, the whirlpools fly over Baie-St-Paul and Isle-aux-Coudres; the falls, mountains and forests of the Grands-Jardins national park; the sumptuous hotel estate of Manoir Richelieu in La Malbaie; and even the Saguenay fjords, with possible whale sightings.
