Daily Digest: A Realtor’s Quest To Find The Best Sandwich In Charleston | Food

This is part of The Post and Courier’s Daily Digest series, in which one of our food journalists asks a local to describe in detail a meal day.
Milo Pilkington is an agent with Carolina One Real Estate in Mount Pleasant.
I have never been one for breakfast. Mainly because I don’t get up on time and am in a frenzy most mornings before work. Hot plug, but I also feel the food options don’t seem as appetizing as some of its lunch and dinner counterparts.
I’ve spent the past two weeks looking for some of the best gourmet sandwiches Charleston has to offer. So far in this wonderful culinary odyssey, I have particularly enjoyed Rodney Scott’s barbecues steak sandwich, which often gets lost in the overhaul of a barbecue restaurant amidst a sea of ââsucculent pulled pork and baby back ribs.
Ted’s Butcher The chicken, pancetta and avocado panini was also a huge hit that will become a staple of the week. However, the leader of the peloton so far, hands down, is Yous Guys sandwich shop on James Island with his Italian sandwich.
Layers of imported parma prosciutto, spicy capicola ham, salami and tangy provolone combined with all the toppings on perfectly seeded bread make this probably the best sandwich I can remember while shoveling my beak anywhere in the world.
This sandwich is as good as anywhere in Philadelphia, New York or New Jersey and gives your Nonna a run for her money.
Yous Guys is a must-have for anyone who hasn’t had the pleasure of sweating meat for the next two hours at work; an exercise that any true gourmet should accept with enthusiasm.
