The technology and the charging range have yet to be worked on by the Germans, but these two are now very close to toppling the Tesla Model X., and the Audi e-tron GT and the Mercedes EQS would take over. the Tesla Model S, including the famous Model S Plaid.
These two Germans were able to reduce the MSRP of the Tesla Model Y by $ 54,990. The 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron starts at $ 43,900 and the VW ID.4 starts at $ 46,700 even lower. The only Tesla that exceeds these two is the Model 3 which starts at $ 41,990. But now you have more options and can choose the best of these promising Tesla rivals.
The Germans have finally figured out what Tesla started, and things are getting interesting.

These two Germans are in the same neighborhood when it comes to pricing. The 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron starts with an MSRP of $ 43,900, tops out at $ 56,200; and comes in 3 trim levels – Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. Premium and Premium Plus come in RWD as standard and get AWD with an additional $ 6,000. Premium Prestige is only available in AWD.
Volkswagen ID.4 starts with an MSRP of $ 39,995, tops out at $ 48,175, and comes in 2 trim levels – Pro and Pro S. An RWD layout is standard here, and AWD will cost an additional $ 3,680. Audi is of course the more expensive of the two, but for the right reasons. You see, these two cars come under the same VW-run umbrella company and it’s rightly pointed out that the Audi Q4 e-tron is a more luxurious Volkswagen ID.4.

The Audi Q4 e-tron is offered in two powertrain configurations. The base called 40 has a single 201 HP electric motor and is a comfortable machine that takes almost 8 seconds to hit 60 MPH. The most powerful iteration is called 50 packs of twin motors, one on each axle, and pump 295 HP, doing 0-60 MPH in 6.2 seconds. The 40 comes with RWD and 50 offers AWD as standard.
Volkswagen ID.4 contains essentially the same base engine setup and performance as the Audi with 201 HP and RWD setup. But when it comes to the more powerful AWD twin-engine setup, Volkswagen is slightly ahead with 302 horsepower. The RWD model hit 60 MPH at about the same time as Audi’s, but the AWD unit is fiercer with just 5.4 seconds at 60 MPH.

The Audi Q4 e-tron packs a 77 kWh battery and travels 250 miles on a full charge. It also supports fast charging up to 125 kW and can charge up to 10-80% in about 30 minutes. On the flip side, Volkswagen ID.4 also comes with the same size battery, but runs 10 more miles, 260 miles on a full charge. It supports fast charging and can only be powered using 110V or 240V connector. Regardless, the Germans are still behind the Tesla Model Y which has a maximum range of 316 miles.

Audi has a more space-age interior layout with sharp, industrial-looking elements. Even the lux-appeal is a cut above, after all it’s an Audi. The instrument panel has a unique driver-centric layout with numerous displays and a square steering wheel. Audi also takes the upper hand in terms of technology with a 10.3-inch digital dashboard and 10.1-inch infotainment screen running the popular Audi MMI system.
The interior of the Volkswagen ID.4 is more of the calming type with a lot of lighter tones and smoother surfaces. The dashboard is minimal and gets smaller screens than its corporate cousin with a standard 10-inch infotainment system and a 5.3-inch instrument cluster. The infotainment can be upgraded to a 12-inch unit with an optional Statement package. VW has the more minimal interior design of the two, but the luxury appeal is lackluster with cloth seats for the base trim and leatherette for the top trim.

Since these two cars are based on the same platform and form factor, they have similar real estate properties. Audi has an incomparable futuristic design language thanks to LED lighting. VW opted for a more discreet and curvy exterior shape. Both are unique and will appeal to different audiences. VW adds a bit of funkness with two-tone layouts.

Surprisingly, Volkswagen has the advantage here as it comes with more standard driver assistance and safety features than the Audi. While adaptive cruise control and semi-autonomous driving mode are standard on the ID.4; this is an optional supplement for the Audi Q4 e-tron.
The standard list is equally impressive for both cars with features like forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring and automated emergency braking as standard. VW somehow manages to do marginally well here.
